Dog Waste Removal Service

If you own a dog and have a yard then you know all to well scooping the dog poop is probably your least favorite part of pet ownership. But there are several health, environmental and legal issues that you may not be aware of if you don't scoop and thoroughly clean your yard on a regular basis.

1) Dog waste is not a good fertilizer. The feces contain about 0.7% nitrogen (N), 0.25% phosphate (P2O5) and 0.02% potash (K2O). Dog waste, as excreted, contains about 2-1/2 times as much N, the same amount of P2O5 and half as much K2O as cattle manure.

2) There are many health concerns with dog waste including:

Fecal coliforms.
Fecal coliforms, such as E. coli, are abundantly present in dog poop. These microorganisms can make the water that we rely on for fishing, swimming, and drinking unsafe. Effects of E. coli can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, and headaches.

Roundworms. Roundworm eggs can be found in dog feces and can be easily transferred to other hosts through ingestion. This is especially dangerous if you have a dog that eats poop. Unfortunately, this is a pretty common behavior. Humans are at risk, too; children in particular. Not because kids generally make a habit of eating poo, but they do frequently put their hands in their mouths regardless of what they've been doing.

Giardia. Another parasite sometimes found in dog feces that can be transferred to animals and humans through ingestion is giardia. Giardia is generally the culprit for Montezuma's revenge and causes diarrhea, cramping, and abdominal pain. Most commonly it is contracted through the drinking of water that has been tainted by feces.

Salmonella. Salmonella can also be found in and spread by dog feces. It can be transferred from dog to dog or even from dog to human. Avoid feeding your dog any uncooked meats or eggs.

3) Stormwater Runoff

Improperly disposed dog waste may be washed into storm drains by rain or melting snow. Storm drains, then drain directly into our lakes and streams, carrying many pollutants along with the water. This water is NOT treated or cleaned before it empties into a body of water.

When dog waste is washed into lakes or streams the waste decays, using up oxygen and sometimes releasing ammonia. Low oxygen levels and ammonia combined with warm temperatures can kill fish. Dog waste also contains nutrients that encourage weed and algae growth. Overly fertile water becomes cloudy and green--unattractive for swimming, boating, and fishing.

Dog waste also carries diseases which make water unsafe for activities like swimming.

4 ) It's the law!

Most cities or municipalities in North Texas have pooper scooper laws for public areas. You can be fined if you found with your dog and without a plastic bag or pooper scooper. If you leave your personal property left un-cleaned and the smell becomes an issue for your neighbors you can be fined for unsanitary conditions.
